This command determines the type of pronunciation for the word immediately following this command. This command is synchronous.
Use the [:pronounce alternate] command to obtain an alternative pronunciation for a word. The Homograph tables in the Homographs section gives examples of primary and alternate pronunciations of words. Using the word wind as an example, the primary pronunciation is w'ihnd, as in ‘the wind is blowing’. The alternate pronunciation, denoted by [:pronounce alternate] wind, is w ' ayn d, as in ‘wind up the top’.
Use the [:pronounce name] command to pronounce the word as a proper name. First names, last names, street names, and place names are all examples of proper names.
